AUPL: KCCA FC defeat Bright Stars to keep title hopes alive

Azam Uganda premier league defending champions KCCA FC picked up a vital 1-2 away win off boggy side Bright Stars FC at the Champions stadium in Matugga on Saturday evening to keep their title hopes alive thanks to Derrick Nsibambi and Paul Mucuurezi strikes.

The City lads began on a high note and in the 10th minute Derrick Nsibambi made a superb run and released Muhammad Shaban whose effort was blocked.

Eleven minutes later the home side nearly broke the deadlock through inspirational skipper Nelson Senkatuka but goalkeeper Charles Lukwago came to the rescue.

Bright Stars Kakooza then became the first player to enter the referee’s books with a yellow card in the 26th minute.

The awaited moment came in the 35th minute with Derrick Nsibambi capitalising on a Paul Mucuurezi assist to put the visitors into the lead before half time break.

After recess, the hosts made their first change and the first of the match with lanky forward Joshua Kawadwa coming on for Kakooza in the 51st minute.

Three minutes later KCCA FC nearly doubled their lead through Isaac Kirabira attempt from 30yards only to go inches wide.

Mike Mutebi later made his first change of the match withdrawing talented midfielder Jackson Nunda for Solomon Okwalinga in the 67th minute.

Five minutes later, the visitors found a leveller through Kokas Opejo to cancel out Derrick Nsibambi’s first half strike.

With ten minutes to stoppage time, KCCA took off Sadam Juma for striker Patrick Kaddu in search for a winner which paid off in the 85th minute whent Paul Mucuurezi restored their lead from a well taken free kick to help his side pick up a vital win to keep the title hopes alive.

Mike Mutebi handed youngster  Hassan Juma his debut in the dying minutes of the game coming on for Muhammad Shaban.

The result took KCCA FC on 57 points from 28 matches two points behind leaders Vipers SC who play against Express FC on Tuesday at the St.Marys stadium in Kitende while Bright Stars remained on 38 points in 6th place from 29 games.
